Nexus 4

The next Google device to hit the market is the Nexus 4 made by LG. This is a pure Google phone with  stock android and is sure to have the newest version of android before any other non Google devices.

Specs

  • 3G
  • Micro-SIM
  • 4.7 inch 768 x 1280 (318 ppi)
  • No micro SD slot
  • 8/16 GB internal memory
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 8 MP camera with LED flash and 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 1080p video
  • Jelly Bean v4.2
  • Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait
  • Non removable battery with up to 390 h (3G) on stand-by
The design of the nexus is has a premium feel. The back is a glass panel similar to the iphone 4 and 4s with small reflective squares on the back which I think looks nice. The front of the device is flat and has no buttons, the buttons which can be seen on the picture are onscreen buttons, the only physical buttons are around the edge.
Google Nexus 4 review

The nexus 4 is a very good phone for it price at just £239.00 for the 8GB model it is superb value for money. The nexus 4 is quick as it has a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, it also has a large screen with almost the same ppi as an Iphone 4 (326 ppi). This phone will get updates before any other non Google devices which means you will have the most up to date android and wont have to wait for the phone carriers to send the update. The main downside to this phone is the lack of 4G and expandable storage. Though lack of expandable storage seems to be more common with modern phones. There is also limited availability at the time of posting this due to the lack of stock. It is rare to see it available to order.

Overall I think that this is a very good phone and would be a purchase that you wouldn't regret. Though there is limited storage there is always ways to store data in the cloud and access it on your phone. Like putting your music on Google music and streaming it to your device. Also at the moment only EE has a 4G network.

HTC One SV

Six months ago, HTC released the One S. Released next week, the One SV sadly seems to simply be a reboot.
The specifications, listed below, only slightly differ and, in some cases, are actually lower than the One S.
Specs
  • 4G
  • microSIM
  • 4.3 inch 480 x 800 pixels display
  • Micro SD slot
  • 8 GB internal memory
  • 1 GB DDR2 RAM
  • 5 MP with LED flash, 1.6 MP front
  • 1080p video, 720p front
  • Jelly Bean v4.1.2
  • Qualcomm S4 1.2 Ghz, Dual-core
  • Water and dust resistant
  • Beats Audio
The high quality aluminium frame has gone, replaced with a very plasticky chassis. Despite this, the phone actually weighs more than the original. Overall though, the design is still very appealing. Video quality from the camera is good but the photos are decidedly average.
Still, reviewers have said browsing the internet is speedy, especially with the phone's 4G capabilities. As a portable hotspot it is also very handy. On a single charge, the phone will easily last more than a day, making it good for long trips.
Overall though, for the same price, you can buy the HTC One S which has a better screen, processor, case and camera.

Buy the One S (£381)
Buy the One SV (£311)

Sony Xperia Z

This is one of the newest phones released by Sony and has the making to be a real contender against the likes of Samsung and HTC.

Specs
  • Has 3G
  • Micro-Sim
  • 5 inch 1080 x 1920 pixels display (441 ppi)
  • Micro SD slot
  • 16 GB internal memory
  • 2 GB ram
  • 13.1 MP with LED flash
  • 1080P video
  • Jelly Bean v4.1.2
  • Quad core cpu 1.5ghz
  • Non removable battery up to 530 h (3g) on stand-by
  • Water and dust resistant
  • Bravia 2 engine

The screen resolution on this phone is very high and the phone has a very good camera. I think that this is a big step up from Sony as their previous phones have not been of this caliber  The phone has a glass front and back which gives the phone a very stylish feel. This addition of glass at the back could be a problem as it will increase the chances of the phone getting cracked and damaged and could mean that the phone has similar problems to the iPhone 4 with smashed and cracked backs.

The phone also has a stylish power button on the side which is raised and is next to the volume rocker.

Overall I am very much looking forward to this phone being released as I think that it will be a very good phone and will really get Sony back into the mobile market.
